Thank you for subscribing to the Consumer Council (the Council)’s “Smart Seniors” e-Newsletter. The personal data you provide will be used for processing your subscription to the “Smart Seniors” e-Newsletter, sending you the e-newsletters, articles of interest to you, conducting related service surveys and inviting you to participate in surveys.  For details, please refer to the Personal Information Collection Statement.  Fields marked with asterisk (*) are mandatory.  If you do not provide the required information, the Council may not be able to process your subscription.

 

 “Smart Seniors” e-newsletters and other communications mentioned in this form are distributed via the “Smart Seniors” information system. They contain content based on your interests, consumer education or consumer rights information, and updates on the Council’s activities (such as engagements, surveys, and research), facilities, services, promotions and recent developments.     

 

You may unsubscribe from “Smart Seniors” e-Newsletter at any time by clicking the 'Unsubscribe' link provided in the e-newsletters.  Please note that if you have subscribed to other e-Newsletter services, you will continue to receive those e-newsletters.  To unsubscribe from them, please follow the instructions provided in the respective e-newsletters. You may also change your preferred areas of interest by email to [email protected].

Personal Information Collection Statement

  1. The personal data you provide shall be used by the Council for one or more of the following purposes and related purposes:
    • Handling and following up on your subscription application and registration;
    • Sending you “Smart Seniors” e-newsletters regularly and from time to time;
    • Sending you articles that we believe may be of interest to you from time to time;
    • Inviting you to participate in surveys relevant to your interests;
    • Conducting research and data analyses for the protection, advocacy and promotion of consumer interests;
    • Improving and monitoring the Council’s services to meet the needs of service users;
    • Carrying out other statutory and administrative functions, including tendering advice to the Government or public bodies;
    • Complying with laws, regulations, or guidelines issued by regulatory or other authorities; and
    • Other purposes agreed by you.

       

  2. Provided that you have given consent, when you click on links in the e-newsletters, the Council will collect information relating to your click behaviour and web browsing activities using technologies such as tracking pixels or unique link identifiers.  This includes the date and time of the click, the links clicked, your geographical location, and the device or browser used.  Such information will be associated with your email address and personal data (such as demographic data you have provided).  This information helps the Council better understand your interests, understand user engagement, improve services and content relevance, personalise user experience, optimize communications and enhance research and analysis.  You may withdraw your consent at any time by email at [email protected].

     

  3. The Council may consolidate and centrally store the personal data collected through this subscription form and e-Newsletter service with data collected from time to time from other applications, platforms, subscriptions, services, engagements, surveys, studies and activities.  Such aggregated data may be used for the purposes stated in this Personal Information Collection Statement, as well as for other purposes to which you have consented. Accordingly, even if you unsubscribe from the “Smart Seniors” e-Newsletter, the Council may continue to retain and use the aggregated data for the relevant purposes in accordance with your consent and applicable retention requirements.

     

  4. In connection with the above purposes, the Council may transfer your personal data to storage, promotion, research and data analytics service providers and/or business partners commissioned or collaborating with the Council for processing strictly according to the Council’s instructions.  The data may also be processed using artificial intelligence technologies.

     

  5. You have the right to access and correct your personal data held by the Council. Any such requests should be made in writing to the Manager, Compliance, Consumer Council, 22/F, K. Wah Centre, 191 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong.  Requests for data access should be submitted using the form prescribed by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (OPS003).  The Council may charge a fee for processing any data access request.
